In the future, V8 engines will be obsolete. At least, that's if Volvo has anything to say about it. In fact, our favorite Swedish automaker is stretching their technological smarts, looking to revolutionize these car parts completely. That goal, excitingly, will bring drivers in the Moline area and beyond more power and efficiency.
That's not just our opinion either. According to Vice President Powertrain Engineering at Volvo Car Group, Derek Crabb, "We will create smaller, more intelligent engines with so much power that they will turn V8s into dinosaurs. Our four-cylinder engines will offer higher performance than today's six-cylinder units and lower fuel consumption than the current four-cylinder generation."1
That's impressive and we're excited to see the results of here at Mclaughlin Volvo. Although with such lofty aspirations, we understand some may be skeptical. To tackle that hearty mission, the Swedish automaker will approach the situation from two angles.
First up, across their new Volvo lineup, the brand will install smooth eight-speed automatic transmissions. On top of increased agility, the fresh automatics will also reduce the guzzling growl of their standard counterparts, heightening fuel-economy in all of their models.
The next step is a bit more complicated and selective. Catered specifically for diesel vehicles, Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) is introducing i-ART to these greener models. This new technology will use small computers located near each injector. Monitoring the pressure and levels, the system will ensure that optimum amounts of liquid are supplied, conserving the vehicle's fuel-economy.
As we mentioned, we're looking forward to the arrival of these increasingly efficient models. While we wait we invite you to visit our Volvo dealership serving Moline, IL with any questions!
