Volvo is known for its commitment to a cleaner, "greener" environment, and it proves this through its overall actions. Recently, the brand committed to providing the Province of Quebec with 475 new hybrid LFS HEV busses through a partnership with Volvo and Nova Bus. Volvo has spent a great deal of time and considerable resources to develop effective hybrid technology for public transit operators throughout the world, and now all of that effort is really paying off!
Greener Ideas explains the idea behind Quebec's embracing of the new technology, stating, "Cities throughout Quebec offer opportunities to test out the LFS HEV in challenging urban environments and weather conditions. Vehicles like the LFS HEV not only help transit operators reduce their fuel costs but encourage operators around the world to consider hybrid buses already tested on the road."1
The LFS HEV combines an electric drive system by Allison and a Cummins ISB engine that procures 2018 kW and a cluster of high-capacity batteries that weigh a combined 900 pounds. Nova Bus says the LFS HEV reduces carbon emissions and fuel consumption by 30 percent compared to diesel buses. Several other markets are also receiving the new buses.
