2023 Volvo XC40 Engine Options & Styles

Two powertrains are offered with the 2023 Volvo XC40 SUV, each equipped with a 2.0L four-cylinder direct injection turbocharged gasoline engine that features a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Each engine option is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. What differentiates the two powertrains, besides output levels, is a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive system. 

The mild hybrid system supports the engine through regenerative braking, by recharging ― or adding power back to ― the battery.
