By now, many people have seen Volvo Trucks division's viral hit, "The Epic Split" featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Already, it has accrued over 52 million views. It certainly is pretty cool, and pretty crazy, but that's what you get from the guy who has made such fine films like Hard Target, Universal Soldier, and Street Fighter. Everyone is probably wondering, how'd they pull it off? Well, we're here to tell you.

First and foremost, the stunt is very real. Everything you see on the screen happens. Of course, for Van Damme's safety, there were invisible hooks attached to him, though they didn't compromise the integrity of the Epic Split. The man they call the Muscles from Brussels was otherwise going at this without any help whatsoever.

Showcasing the Volvo dynamic steering system, the ad was filmed in Spain. The production team rehearsed the move for three days prior, but the Epic Split was all shot on the first take. As you might guess, the tension was pretty high, but it must have been such a relief, and very cool to get it done the first time.

As for the trucks? They go backwards just to prove a point. Going forward is easy. Doing something in reverse is challenging. It's fitting because all new Volvo models always go above and beyond, and stand out for their abilities.
