You're driving down the highway, and you're taken by surprise by icy road conditions.
If you'd known the road was about to turn slick, you could have taken precautions, like reducing speed. But how could you have known? You can't always see black ice, and even if you do spot conditions visually, you only have a few seconds to react.
As always, Volvo has a safety solution in mind:
Volvo's connected cars upload road condition data and broadcast it to other connected cars. It alerts the driver in real time, and allows you to make adjustments.
This type of crowd-sourced data is a great way to turn other drivers into your eyes and ears. Similar technology is already used by some map services to get traffic data.
This pilot program will test the concept on Norwegian and Swedish streets, but we hope in a few years this will be a standard feature on all new Volvos. We always look forward to seeing what innovative new safety features we'll get in at McLaughlin Volvo.
