It was just recently that we were discussing our preferred Swedish automaker's aptitude for drivers' and passengers' well-being. Namely, Volvo was lauded with a 2013 Innovation Award for two of their progressive safety features: the Pedestrian Detection and Pedestrian Airbag Technologies. Now, in the limelight of this success, the auto brand is enjoying another impressive, and related, accomplishment.

To be specific, yet another one of the automaker's innovative safety features is earning its time in the spotlight. You see, Volvo just sold their one millionth vehicle equipped with their City Safety system.

Fitted in a variety of new Volvo models in our Moline, IL showroom, the City Safety feature utilizes cameras and sensors well-placed behind the rear-view mirror and mounted in the front grille. Implementing these technologies to monitor the road ahead, and behind, the innovative system can automatically stop the vehicle if an obstacle is present.

Take the Cyclist Detection, incorporated into the aforementioned autonomous system, as an example. Using the same cameras and sensors, this aspect of the feature primarily alerts the driver to the presence of a bicyclist sharing the road. Then, if speeds between the two units are greater than 20mph and the dual systems determine that a collision is likely, City Safety will stop the vehicle abruptly, if necessary.

At McLaughlin Volvo we think that that's pretty cool. Excitingly, reaching the one-millionth milestone expresses that drivers nationwide do as well. To arrange a test drive in a model equipped with the City Safety system, like the S60 we welcome you to visit our showroom, anytime.
